Course Objectives

  • This is a customized & unique Workshop specially tailored to provide the audience with the knowledge & skills required in the management, handling, storage and disposal of Chemicals/ chemical wastes, including the Regulatory compliance requirements under the OSHA, CIMAH, CPL & USECHH Regulations enforced by DOSH.
  • Also covered is the new emerging requirements of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals or GHS which is an internationally agreed upon system set to replace the various different classification and labeling standards used in different countries.
  • The GHS will use consistent criteria for classification and labeling on a global level. Its development began at the United Nations Rio Conference in 1992 and will be adopted by DOSH for all companies in Malaysia soon.
  • The second half of this Workshop provide us a detailed insight in helping your company to establish an effective Chemical Safety Management, chemical Waste handling and disposal in your company.
  • Familiarize you on how to handle various Chemical cum Hazardous materials emergency incidents, including notification of Regulatory agencies.
  • Also included in this Workshop are the Industrial Hygiene (IH) programs which are related to your Chemical safety compliance efforts, useful Tips on how to implement your CHRA and HIRAC programs.

Methodology

    – Employers legal responsibilities – Penalties, Regulatory violations & appeals 
  • Module 2: Chemicals & Toxicology
    – understanding concepts & principles of Toxicology
    – understand Chemical exposure & Routes
    – Threshold Limit Values, TWA, STEL & Ceiling Limit
    – Local/ Systemic Toxicity – Target organs
  • Module 3: USECHH Regulatory requirements
    – Familiarize yourself with the Malaysian USECHH Regulatory requirements
    – Communicate to your company Senior Management on the Legal requirements of the USECHH requirements & their responsibilities as Employers
    – Ensure your company conduct Chemical sampling/ Industrial Hygiene monitoring at Chemical
    – use workplaces
    – Find out how to send your employees exposed to listed in the Regulation undergo medical surveillance under DOSH-approved Occupational Health Doctors
  • Module 4 : Safe Handling & Storage of Chemicals
    – Learn how to implement effective Safety measures during Chemical handling to prevent chemical leaks and major spills
    – Learn how to design the Best Chemical Storage and chemical Waste disposal storage area/ Warehouse for your chemicals
    – Find out the common chemical hazards during the transportation, handling & storage of chemicals -Determine the different classes of dangerous goods/ Chemicals before & during transportation
  • Module 5: CHRA (Chemical Health Risk Assessment) reporting requirements
    – Concepts & Steps in performing CHRA

    – Exposure evaluation & Control measures -Deciding on Action plans
    – Record keeping & Assessment reviews
  • Module 6: Effective Chemical Safety Management program
    – Learn effective safe methods in Bulk chemical deliveries & chemical transfers
    – Find out how latest Engineering Controls in the safe storage, Transportation & Handling of chemicals
    – Get useful guidelines on the safe disposal of chemical wastes in compliance with local Environmental Regulations
  • Module 7: Chemical Wastes Handling & Disposal program
    – Learn what are the benefits of a good Hazard Communication program
    – Find out the key components of a good CSDS
    – Know what are the regulatory requirements on Hazard Communication by DOSH & DOE
  • Chemical Emergency Preparedness & Response (EPR) program
    – Learn NEW methods/ approaches in developing a robust &
    comprehensive Chemical emergency preparedness programs
    – Find out what it takes to plan & execute chemical emergency drills to test your plans’ effectiveness
